Members responding to the question about foot and ankle pain shared a wide range of experiences, from morning stiffness and tenderness to sharp electrical sensations, with many describing the pain as intense enough to make walking difficult or nearly impossible. Several members found relief through custom orthotics for flat feet or collapsed arches, medications like Cymbalta, amitriptyline, or baclofen, heat or cold therapy depending on individual preference, supportive footwear, and one member enthusiastically recommended Power Plate vibration therapy for significantly reducing nerve pain. A recurring theme was how interconnected fibromyalgia symptoms are, with members also discussing restless leg syndrome, the emotional toll of chronic pain, and the importance of rest, gentle movement, and having supportive partners or community to lean on during flare-ups.

Yes and I saw a podiatrist yesterday. Turns out problems with your feet gives you problems all the way up your spine. Who knew?? In my case my arch has collapsed so I now have flat feet and something called over pronation. The solution is custom orthotics. Waiting on insurance approval (fingers crossed). Otherwise I would have to go with a specific OTC insert.

Can I add? My feet and ankles have been especially tender last few days. But I'm doing an excercise routine with a trainer on a device called the Power Plate. It is a round platform about a foot off the ground and when turned on, it vibrates very violently. It's weird but you do excercise on it like squats and things and the vibration makes the excercise far more intense. Improves balance and muscle density. So I do very simple things with aid of trainer. But my pain is considerably diminished if not gone after my session! Sounds crazy but it shakes the nerves and confuses them. Today I did everything while standing on machine and my feet hardly hurt now. When I walked in I was limping and pain was like hot coals mixed with walking over Legos. Also have carpel tunnel and that pain and numbness is almost gone. I urge anyone to investigate gyms with this device and read up on it. It's called plate vibration therapy. I've been doing it 3x a week, 30 min, for two weeks and I have become a true believer! This is good for fibro and any neuropathy but if you have other health issues like bad discs where vibrating would obviously be detrimental, it would be something to avoid.

I have had a bad back since I was 13. I have gradually managed to hurt everything else. I think what set me off was I hit a deer in 1998 and flipped the van I was driving. I seem to have went down hill ever since. For the last 5 years, I have had to have a surgery of some kind.
I can't stand the cold either. I thought today would be a good day but I am having a lot of trouble walking. Both knees are swollen. Feet hurt, back, neck and shoulders hurt and are very stiff. I feel like Frankenstein when I walk.
Hope you have a good night with low pain. gentle hugs xxx

I take amitriptyline at night which helps my restless legs. I find that walking a little bit despite the pain actually helps my feet ease in the morning, once painkillers have kicked in, but later in the day I have to just rest them. My feet have always been cold for as long as I can remember, at night especially.
