Members shared their experiences with EMG tests during the fibromyalgia diagnostic process, explaining that neurologists often use the test to rule out other conditions like pinched nerves, herniated discs, carpal tunnel syndrome, or nerve damage rather than to confirm fibromyalgia itself. Several members described what the test felt like, with reactions ranging from a mild tingling sensation to significant discomfort, and outcomes varied from completely normal results to discoveries of unexpected nerve issues like peroneal nerve palsy or carpal tunnel. A recurring theme was that EMG testing serves as an important elimination tool in the fibromyalgia diagnosis journey, helping doctors ensure symptoms aren't caused by other neurological conditions before confirming fibro.

I've had several. No answers from them but not nearly as painful as I was lead to believe.

I had one done for the reason that @MrsPolarBear said. They are trying to rule out any possibility of something else. I hadn't it, I almost came off the table because it hurt

Yes all but one came back normal. My left lower leg came back with a diagnosis of peroneal nerve palsy. It's a nerve that runs down the lateral side of your calf
