I have been down with sharp shooting pains first in my right shoulder blade, which made it hard to breathe. Now it is on both sides. I have also had burning rib cage pain for about six months, but when shooting pains started in my ribs, I told my doctor about it all. He ordered an MRI of my thoracic area. I am waiting for results.

Members offered compassionate support and shared experiences with burning rib pain and shooting pains in the ribs and shoulder blades, with many describing similar symptoms including pain between the shoulder blades, tenderness to touch, and debilitating nerve pain. Several members suggested potential causes such as costochondritis (inflammation of rib cartilage), herniated or bulging disks, arthritis in the rib cage, spondylitis, misaligned ribs, or irritated nerves from coughing, with treatments ranging from lidocaine injections and nerve blocks to chiropractic adjustments, heat therapy, steroid packs, and increased doses of Cymbalta. A recurring theme was the importance of advocating for thorough testing like MRIs, seeking second opinions when doctors dismiss symptoms, and the relief of knowing others share these painful and often misunderstood experiences.

It sounds like inflamation in the cartilage. Chest wall pain is pretty common with fm.

I saw Dr today she is sending me for a scan of my liver because of the constant fullness and bloating I feel. I don't know if that is similar to what you had? Unfortunately this dr that I've only seen twice and whom I like is leaving, so I won't see her again when I get my results. Hope the next one I see I can connect with.
