This is all about the government interfering in the treatment of chronic pain patients and it really makes me angry. I realize there are people out there who sell these medications on the streets, but there is also an epidemic of meth users so go after them. All the DEA ( Drug Enforcement Agency) is doing is scaring doctors so they don't want to prescribe pain meds anymore or they try to wean you off. If you go to a board certified pain management doctor the DEA doesn't mess with them. There is a study about opoid induced pain, however it is just a study and has not been proven yet. Remember this, and it is a fact. People with true chronic pain do not get high on pain medications, it takes away the pain and helps them to live a better quality of life. They are dependent on this medication, but they are not addicted like an addict would be. Anyone who takes any kind of medication(i.e. diabetic, high blood pressure) is dependent on their meds. Your doctor from the VA is really not telling you the whole story about the DEA scaring doctors.

@A MyFibroTeam Member You are so right, I found out by accident that it is political and not medical, these Dr's whether VA or private are running scared, I go see my Dr on the 8th and plan to tell her that I know that her little study on opiates only increase pain is a farce, she is scared of the DEA and the US Government, I want them to stay the hell outta my healthcare, I'm not addicted, I take meds for blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, allergy, tartive dyakenisis (involuntary muscle movements caused by taking Abilify for to long) insulin 2 different kinds, 2 different kinds of diabetes pills, these drugs are needed as are the opiates, I don't get high from my oxys I get pain relief, when I run out I don't go tweaking and running thru the streets looking for some, I wait for next script to come in. We need to keep the US Government out of our healthcare, I plan to fight till the end with this, I hope everyone else does too.

I have been taking the same mg for 3 years and have not had that urge to want more, this works for me. Doctor has decided to keep me on my pain meds and even gave me back the one pill per day she took. So things are back like they are supposed to be. Thanks for your input. :-)

My dr, although prescribed me plenty, said that the opiates trick your body into feeling pain when it wants more meds. I just got off all my opiates and it was Hell. Never going to experience that again! I'm going to try anything else. Hugs

Well it probably both political and medical , for sometime the medical field has disagreed amongst themselves weather narcotic help in fibromyalgia . And since there is epidemic of over use of narcotic , the politicians are pushing the doctors to control how much and when they prescribed narcotic. I too had to sign agreement that I wouldn't take any prescription for pain by any other doctors other than the pain clinic I go to.
