Music

If you're hurting, you might want to crank up your favorite tunes. Listening to music releases a chemical in your brain that helps control feelings of discomfort. Some people with fibromyalgia, which causes muscle and joint pain, get relief this way. It may also work if you've got arthritis or a nerve disorder.

How long should you listen? One small study showed just 20 minutes a day gave relief to people with arthritis.

Members enthusiastically confirmed that music helps ease their pain and manage fibromyalgia symptoms, sharing that they listen to everything from soft jazz and classical to heavy metal and country, depending on their mood and needs. Several members described using music as a powerful distraction tool during daily tasks like dishes, as a sleep aid with relaxation CDs or soft playlists that help them finally rest after years of insomnia, and as a way to work through both physical pain and emotional frustration. A recurring theme was the deeply personal nature of music therapy, with members emphasizing that different genres serve different purposes on different days, and that losing yourself in the music you love can lift your mood and take your mind off the pain without any downsides.

I use music everyday sometimes it helps and sometimes not so much, I listen to everything from ACDC to Marvin Gaye to Beethoven is what ever works for that day. I use noise cancelling earbuds and in a dark room with my eyes covered it helps too

I do this to sleep! I found that listening to soft music at night helps me sleep! I'm obsessed with the song "human" by Christina Perry right now. So I put on iheart radio at night and play her station. Helps me relax and fall into sleep. I've had some major sleeping problems and my boyfriend suggested the music! The first night we turned music on at night, I was able to relax my body and slept 12 hours. I'm normally lucky if I get four hours of sleep.

Music is a great tool for distracting your mind. It certainly doesn't hurt anything and I find if anything is helpful in taking my mind off the pain, I go for it

I listen to music when I'm doing the dishes, which makes it more fun and goes by faster. I also listen to music when my anxiety is to high.

There are a lot of meditation cds at my house. The most helpful for falling asleep is called Healthful Sleep by Belleruth Naparstek. I've rarely even heard the end of the cd as I fall asleep before it's done.
