Members shared creative and practical strategies for managing housework while dealing with chronic illness and parenting, with the most common advice being to delegate age-appropriate tasks to kids, sit down whenever possible to conserve energy, and use timers or TV commercials to pace work with frequent rest breaks. Several members emphasized the importance of letting go of perfectionism, decluttering to reduce overwhelming tasks, using tools like crockpots and baskets to minimize trips and effort, and accepting that some days simply need to be written off without guilt. A recurring theme was the reality that housework will never look the way it did before chronic illness, and the key to managing is striking when energy peaks, taking breaks between tasks, and remembering that what doesn't get done today will still be there tomorrow.

The best thing I have come up with is to use the TV as a timer, while watching a program, I get up and work on the house during the commercials and then rest myself during the program. For example, I can unload the dishwasher through one set of commercials and reload the next commercial cycle. I change the laundry and can bring a basketful with me to my chair to fold, next commercial I put it away. This gives my exhausted body rest periods, I get a ton done so it eases my mind. I hope this helps, hugs and blessings.

One tip that I learned from a course I recently took was to have baskets on every floor. Go around the main floor and put all things in the basket that need to go upstairs. It saves trips up and down the stairs which can be draining.

I like to make a list and the easy things I put my kids to help me. My kids are 7 & 9 now. My kids do dishes, take out the trash from the trash cans around the apartment and put it in the kitchen trash can, I take out the kitchen trash, they pick up their toys, vacuum their room, wipe down any dirt on walls, they fold their own laundry and put it away and even help me cook. I'm hispanic so we're taught from when we're able to walk to help around the house even if it's just to put toys in the toy box or put the laundry in the machine and even the boys too, so I'm doing the same with my kids. They need to learn responsibility and boys to respect and help the ladies in the house. The rest on my list I do them depending how I feel and the time I have. I go from light stuff to the more heavy stuff and I ask my husband whenever he's free to help too which is very rare but he does help a little. I just try my best to do as much as I can then leave the rest for the next day or the next few days and take breaks in between and drink water.

Wow I like the basket trick! I also agree with getting a crockpot, sitting while folding laundry and taking frequent breaks. I try to do things when I have energy whether it's 2 hours after rising or 6, you have to strike while the irons hot! Some days you just have to write off.
