Members discussed persistent coughing spells with no clear medical cause, and the conversation revealed a wide range of helpful suggestions and shared experiences. Several members pointed to common culprits including medication side effects (especially blood pressure drugs), acid reflux or GERD, asthma flare-ups, thyroid issues, dry air in winter, and conditions like Sjogren's syndrome. Practical advice included using cool mist humidifiers or air purifiers, trying pink Himalayan salt lamps, taking acid reflux medications like omeprazole or Nexium, staying hydrated with ice water, and using saline nasal spray to keep airways moist.

I have coughing spells too - the doctors tell me I have acid reflux- I take OTC omeprazole 20 mg Daily, it helps a lot. I also have asthma, and when it acts up it also makes.me have coughing fits. Not fun at all. I hope the acid reducing meds and salt lamps help you!!

@A MyFibroTeam Member I to experience this. I've gotten a cool mist humidifier for 1200 sq ft. Not very expensive, it covers my small ranch. In addition this winter I added the air purifier to remove dust, pollen, pet dander etc. It works very well. I have that in my living rm where I am most of the day.

I have dry coughing spells but also know it's because of my Sjogren's syndrome, the dry air in winter time & my chronic sinus problems. I use a room humidifier in my bedroom which helps a little. :)

I cough for weeks sometimes, doctors have done several tests. They can't decide what causes it and all the pills and syrups don't help. I pray you did relief and when you do - share.
