The rheumatologist I see is wonderful. She is very thorough. I've noticed as time goes on, that my symptoms are becoming more severe. I started medication for it a little over a week ago. I'm not sure if it's the Fibro or the medication, but I can't seem to complete some of my words. Sometimes I feel like I'm slurring my words a bit. Is this unusual? Symptoms are all still there. Waiting for the pain relief to kick in. I was told it could take up to two weeks. Any info is much appreciated!

Members rallied around someone asking about fibromyalgia symptoms beyond the typical pain, fatigue, and brain fog, with many confirming that speech difficulties like slurring, stuttering, and trouble finding words are indeed common experiences shared across the community. Several members offered practical insights, noting that medications like Lyrica and Gabapentin can worsen cognitive issues and speech problems, while others found relief through alternative approaches including antioxidants, glutathione IV treatments, green tea with ginseng, massage therapy, and carefully adjusting medication dosages with specialist guidance. A recurring theme was the frustration of losing once-sharp communication skills, the unpredictability of symptoms that come and go with weather and stress, and the importance of finding humor and grace in moments when family members become translators or when you forget why you walked into a room.

I agree with morehope. The cognitive impairment from the lyrica wasn't worth it to me. Never helped with my pain. Taking many antioxidants which have helped get rid of fog. My naturalpath gives me IV push of glutathione which helps increase my energy too

I read more now because I forget how to spell words and sometimes I pause midsentence cause Im trying to think of simple words while I'm talking. I often forget why I walked into a room. So frustrating

I had had a lot of muscle twitches when I am relaxed. I am also more sensitive to the cold. I go from feeling cold one minute to feeling like I am burning up the next. I also get a fair amount of muscle spasms, especially in my neck and the back of my thighs.

I also have "word" trouble ... not so much slurring, but the word is out there, I just can't reach it. this is very frustrating for me as I used to have a large vocabulary and considered myself an above-average communicator. now there are times I can't form the most simple of sentences. when the word finally comes to me, I blurt it out ~ at this point, completely out of context ... my family is used to it. but I think the rest of the world thinks I have Tourette's (sp?)
