A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Have any of your Doctors refused to give you disability when you have FM, RA, IBS, depression, anxiety, pain, etc. what can I do. It's hard for me to work 8 hrs and doing the jobs of 3 persons. I got high blood pressures when I get a lot of stess at work. Wright now I'm on medical leave for two weeks and just by thinking on getting back to work I get anxious. It's not that I don't want to work it's the stressful job that I have to deal with. I will appreciate any advise. Thank you

I was told in early 2001 by pain management Doctor that he strongly believed Fibro is partly due to a serious trauma such as sexual abuse etc. I was surprised at that response as I have been through sexual abuse in the military at age 18 and also as a child. I was also involved in a very serious car accident on base in 1972. It seems that is when it surfaced for me. (1972) I am now 62 and my pain is managed with pain medication, Cymbalta and I try to stay positive because stress, weather and over doing things when I feel good affects my Fibro greatly. If I do not rest enough, or eat good my Fibro is off the hook.. I hope my info helps someone else. Fibro is a real beast of a disease and don't let negative people tell you otherwise. I tell my friends and family, unless you have walked in my shoes please do not Judge me, Please support me <3

Yes Doctors discouraged me for many years because they themselves did not know enough about Fibro. I think many Doctors are skeptical about Fibro and I feel many Doctors don't believe it is an actual disease. In my opinion I call it ignorance on their part. They need more research to confirm and acknowledge that their are SO many people who have this disease and it is not just in our head. Fibro is a legitimate disease with many side affects, and everyone reacts differently to their own personal experiences with Fibro. I know my body very well and I know what I feel is real. I have had Fibro since age 19 and I am now 62. I was diagnosed with it in 1992 by a Country Doctor in New Hampshire and he really knew what I was feeling physically and mentally. He was the most compassionate and understanding Doctor I have ever had. He felt my pain like I do and that is where my healing began. Thank you Dr Capabianco in Colebrook, NH ~+~

I received Social Security Disability in my early 40's. I am now 62. I was turned down twice trying to do it on my own but once I got an Attorney I got my Social Secuirty quite quickly for Fibromyalgia. I also have PTSD, Panic/Anxiety disorder and some othet stuff too. But I did get my SS for Fibro, ( hugs)

Just like you, if I overwork myself or stress out and do not rest, my fibro goes crazy. I cant miss a dose of meds or I will pay for it that night.
