Who Has FM And CFS? I Have Always Thought I Had Both, But Not Sure What The Difference Is.

What is the main difference between FMS and CFS or are they just different diagnosis for the same thing. I'm trying to get disability after 21 years at the same job. Just can't do it anymore. I was turned down the first time which I know is the usual. I have always thought I had CFS also because sometimes the fatigue is worse than the pain, but I know all of you talk about how bad the fatigue is with just the FMS so I'm not sure. My doctor won't diagnose me with the CFS because she says they are… read more

I was just officially diagnosed with both Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue. I think mine started out as just chronic fatigue and just recently added the fibro... With the chronic fatigue it was a cycle of good days and bad days where I felt completely run down like I was getting the flu, but I never actually got a fever. Now I also have the muscle fatigue and pain after activity, as well as the extreme fatigue. For me, I think the biggest way I can tell the difference is the chronic fatigue makes my glands feel swollen and tender. I don't think that is a fybro symptom. I also get super shaky/shivery when I've overdone it and am tired, which I think is more of a chronic fatigue thing than a fibro thing. But they do "go hand in hand" because many people get both and they have many overlapping symptoms, from what I've read.

Chronic fatigue syndrome has been renamed to Systemic Exertion Intolerance Disease just this past year. I have both but I am in bed 80-90%of the time or sitting in a chair. I was diagnosed in 1992 and retired on disability. I have literally lived in my robe and gown for the last 10 +years and pretty much homebound. That's my experience with cfs/seid....

To me the difference is CFS the fatigue is so bad that sometimes I feel too tired to get off the couch and go to the bathroom, or even get out of bed.

Most people who have fibro have chronic fatigue from being in pain all the time. Your body just gets tired of it. If one of those people who don't think we know what we were talking about could walk a week in our shoes. ....I agree. Any doctor that blows you off need to be changed to a doctor that "gets it. " I'm going Google chronic fatigue and fibro and see what the Internet says just to see. I experience both. But have had so much stuff since the coma that I don't know where the fibro and the coma issues begin. I just know what I live with everyday.
