Medication
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm wondering if any of you have stopped talking all the medications that the doctor has given you because they aren't helping any more and if so what alternative did you use, and did you feel better after you stopped taking the medication??

I stopped taking all, you will hurt, I now go to gym and lift weights and ride a bike, it hurts but my muscles are getting stronger and blood is flowing much better. I do take advil or aleve when i need to , to take the edge off. I feel better because i am not fighting the conflict of to many drugs can cause. So find what works for you, through exercise and a painkiller. This works for me and I have experimented with different ways. I have hade this since I was 24 and I am 58 now. See a councilor to talk with personally for the depression that comes with it.

Stopped or stopping all. They are a band aid and didn't do anything to help. For pain soaking in a hot Epsom salt bath helps the inflammation. Just taking care of inflammation helps. Have a blog and had whole page of alternatives that work for me but accidentally deleted. So when I repost will let you know. Change your diet - spices that lower inflammation- ginger, garlic, cayenne pepper, onion ... Basically Indian spices. No gluten Acupuncture. Etc

Yes, I no longer take any prescription medications for the fibro after having tried nearly every med out there. The ones that worked only worked for a few months to a year and then quit being of much benefit or they had awful side-effects that I was not willing to tolerate. I also found that I am a "light-weight" when it comes to stronger prescription pain and anti-depressant medications and chose to put up with a bit more discomfort than be nearly unconscious all the time. Over the years the things that I find to be helpful for me are the supplement Curcumin, Vitamin D, alternating daily doses of Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen (Tylenol), EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) therapy, Hellerwork massage, meditation and remembering to be nice to myself. We all are affected differently and it can take time to find what gives you the best results without compromising your quality of life. It can also take time to find the right care-giver whether it be a general physician, rheumatologist, or alternate therapy practitioner. We all need to learn to be our own best advocates since those who have not suffered with this illness cannot truly understand and we need to persevere until we find those who at least try to understand. Stay strong, my fellow warrior; you can do this. Gentle hugs to you. Blessed Be.

Wow I stopped my meds because they say they aren't heart healthy. I stopped and the detox was aweful. The depression was terrible. The pain was so bad I endef up in hospital emerg to get help. Gave me dilodid to try and help. I saw my cardiologist and he said to go back on meds. The stress and pain was too much on my heart. Gave me some relief but waiting to see a rhumatologist on hamilton. Hoping he can help with the pain that these meds didn't take care of. Doc said its just new pieces of fibromyalgia.

I follow the protocol as outlined on www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com. It does make a huge difference over time. It's critical to take the time to read and learn about it before giving it a try or else it will just be another disappointment. I am a nurse practitioner and started working in a Rheumatology office a month ago. I am seeing fibromyalgia patients and can already see that meds promoted as for fibro are pretty hit or miss if they help at all.
