Members strongly cautioned against stopping Cymbalta abruptly after someone's doctor delayed their refill, with nearly everyone sharing that cold turkey withdrawal can be dangerous and cause severe symptoms like mood swings, brain zaps, dizziness, nausea, heart palpitations, and even suicidal thoughts. Several members recounted their own harrowing experiences, including one who ended up hospitalized with heart issues and another who nearly took their own life after being switched too quickly to a similar medication. A recurring theme was the critical importance of slowly tapering off under medical supervision, keeping backup doses on hand for refill delays, and having a strong support system to monitor mood changes during any transition.

better to slowly decrease if possible... the doctor just recently switched me directly from cymbalta to venlafaxine without any adjustment period and after a couple weeks i nearly killed myself. so if you do have to do cold turkey, just be aware of your moods and have a good support team around you! pain and nausea were a major issue from the withdrawal too.

Should not do cymbalta cold turkey. Take a few grams out at a time and with doctor watching you.

That is really not a good idea. Major withdrawal!

The doctor is weaning me off of Cymbalta right now.....I was taking 60 mg and am now taking 30 mg for two weeks and then will start a trial of Sevella. Best to taper off of many of the drugs they give us. Side effects can be brutal and in some cases life threatening.
