Has anyone else had a negative reaction mentally to gabapentin, even though physically helps some, and if you came off of it, what were your other options and did they work?!

Members opened up about the serious mental and emotional side effects they experienced with gabapentin, with many describing increased irritability, hopelessness, mood swings, memory loss, and in several cases, suicidal thoughts that emerged within days or weeks of starting the medication. Several members shared alternative treatments they switched to, including Lyrica, Cymbalta, Tramadol, opioids with muscle relaxers, and Elavil, though many noted that finding the right combination remains challenging and that coming off gabapentin requires a careful, gradual taper due to difficult withdrawal symptoms like severe anxiety and vertigo. A recurring theme was the frustrating trade-off between managing physical pain and preserving mental health, with members expressing exhaustion over trying new medications, concern about inadequate medical monitoring when starting gabapentin, and solidarity around difficult side effects like significant weight gain and memory problems.

Sadly it did not work out for me and I stopped taking it a week ago. I actually thought it might be improving my mood at first but I never got any pain relief, and I had some side effects I didn't like. I am already taking Cymbalta and Tramadol so I will just stick to those. I am tired of trying new meds, I need a break.
