Members shared deeply varied experiences with Gabapentin for pain management, with some finding relief while others experienced side effects like swelling in ankles, feet, and hands, significant weight gain, dizziness, drowsiness, and increased appetite. Several members described practical strategies including taking water pills for swelling, staying hydrated, adjusting dosages with their doctors, and switching to alternatives like Lyrica when side effects became too burdensome. A recurring theme was that while many found Gabapentin helpful in stabilizing pain and knew immediately when they missed a dose, others felt it stopped working over time or turned them into zombies, highlighting that each person's response to the medication is deeply individual and requires careful monitoring with healthcare providers.

I take a pretty low dose. 900mg a day. I have fibro, neuropathy and flat feet. I was getting swollen ankles and feet before I started taking gabapentin. Not so often now. I do start hurting if I miss a dose. Perhaps have your husband stand on a flat surface and look at his feet. Flat feet causes many problems. There is a test he can try. But it being winter now might have to use a different surface. But wet your feet and step on a surface that will show your print. Maybe cardboard? You're suppose to use concrete. Anyway look at the print and if you see most of your print and no arch missing then you should be concerned.

I have been on Gabapentin for 12 yrs. I have not had any side effects from it. I only take 600 mgs now. In the beginning I was taking about 1800 mgs daily. As far as if I feel that it works...I think that it keeps my pain stable. When I was going in front of a law judge to get my disability 9 yrs ago, my lawyer told me to stop taking my meds so I would look as bad as I possible could. I did noticed that my pain was worse, so I guess it does take a little ease off the pain that is what I mean by stable. If that makes sense.

I took it for almost a year and all it did for me was make me high so I couldnt feel most of my pain. I was on the maximum dose and it made me a zombie. I was forgetful, more than I am now, I could not work on it. I went to a fibro workshop at the hospital here in Edmonton, and that drug has only had one study done on it for fibro. It has not been tested long enough to prove its effective for fibro. So I took myself off of it and I felt like me again. I do not recommend it at all. It changed my personality and I had a lot more muscle twitching. But if it works for others, great, it was just not for me.

I have been taking this med for about 3 months now....I take 300 mg twice a day....I have been able to go off of Savella which is much more expensive....I have noticed a bit of swelling, it made me drowsier the first week or so...now I am back to my normal levels of tiredness with the Savella....I did add 300 mg of St. Johns wort due to some warm sensations in different areas of my body...so far so good......I think I will try this for a while and see how it works.....
