Flat Feet
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have flat feet, which causes more pain than normal for fibro. I wear arch support but seems to be getting worse. I plan to go see an orthopedic dr. soon. Anyone else have this problem? What do you do to relieve stress?

Yes me too I have fallen arches in both feet .I also use arch supports some times ,they told me to wear them all the time. But I also have arthritis in my knees. I find it better to not always use them ,if I know I will be doing alot of walking I wear them but on other days I don't always. I alternate between different types of shoes and this seems to help as you seem to use different muscles for walking in different shoes .if you wear the same shoes every day the same muscles are being used all the time and never really get a rest. I'm all for doing what the specialists say ,but with Fibromyalgia I think we have to experiment as they don't really know much about it.

I just wanted to add I have this problem too, exceptionally painful and it keeps me sitting down way more than I'd like - adding to weight gain :( I was advised by the Rheumatologist to wear arch supports but they just hurt my feet even more. I feel your pain and hope you find some relief.

If your tendon that runs from your heel to your toes is really tight it is probably is plantar fascitiis. You can get supports that have padded heels or braces you can wear at night that keep you foot flexed. Physical therapy is an option as well as shots into the tendon.

I've had two pairs of orthotics. One set a number of years ago after surgery on my foot. The second set was about 3 years ago. I still wear both sets in different shoes depending on the shoe. Sometimes you have to just wear them for a short time and work up to wearing them all the time and I swear by them. I do not have fallen arches, in fact my arches are very high, but do have plantars fasciitis.
