I eventually would like to have a another child so my daughter has a sibling and life long playmate... but I'm scared. Can we take our meds? Is that safe if we can? And if we can't take out meds, what is the 9 months like? I'm really scared and nervous but I know nothing about it. Any information on this would be wonderful! Thank you!

Members offered varied experiences and practical advice about pregnancy with fibromyalgia, with some sharing that pregnancy brought unexpected relief due to hormones like endorphins and cortisone, while others described difficult experiences coming off medications cold turkey and managing severe pain with limited safe options like Vicodin, Tramadol, or Codeine. Several members emphasized the importance of working closely with doctors to determine safe medication options, preparing the home for easy access to baby essentials to accommodate disability limitations, and exploring natural pain management like massage, yoga, and warm baths. A recurring theme was honest acknowledgment of the challenges alongside deep reassurance that the joy and love of having a child makes the struggle worthwhile, with encouragement to advocate for yourself medically and set up systems for success before the baby arrives.

Hi I've spoken to my doctor and she's advised the only medications that are 'safe' during pregnancy are tramadol and codeine when necessary but you would need to stop taking them in the third trimester so baby doesn't have withdrawals when it's born. I've started taking panadeine which is panadol mixed with a very small dose of codeine so I have less codeine in my system but it still helps a lot more than just panadol. There are natural options which are amazing such as massages, trigger point therapy, bath/spa, yoga, aqua aerobics etc that you could try :)

I felt great during pregnancy, practically normal. No problems or complications. Probably due to endorphins and cortisone the body produces during the pregnancy. Then about 6 weeks after delivery all symptoms returned with a vengance. I was concerned I might drop the baby, is i set up everything within reach in my bedroom. I placed bassinet right next to bed, kept wipes, diapers, clean sleepers, etc near me. I fixed a changing pad area on the floor in livingroom so I wouldn't worry about baby falling on floor during diaper changes. Breast feeding is the best thing. Its easy, cheap, and you always have it with you. No bottles and clutter tie deal with. Make things as easy as possible for yourself before baby comes. Worry less about how pretty the room us and more about ease of use for a mom with a disability. ENJOY YOUR CHILD.

My niece has had CFIDS and FM since a young age (5?). She just had a baby about a year ago. Worked with her doctor and didn't seem to have too many problems and she also breast fed. If no one else can give you answers, I can connect you with her. She will help.

Girl, I went through it. All I can say is everyone is different. My personal experience was terrible. Having to come off my meds cold turkey was not good. I suffer with migraines and they are worse during pregnancy. All I was able to take was Vicodin which really did not do much. My belly felt painful like it was pulling on my body. I barely slept, I was an emotional mess, The doctors almost lost me. BUT, I have the most beautiful princess I could have asked for and she is my shadow. She is 5 years old now and makes sure that I knows she loves me about a million times a day.
