I have chronic costicondritis that my doctors say will never go away due to my fibromyalgia. I can't work because of the pain, can't lift, reach or fit to long. I need an income and am at my whits end with this disease!! Would I qualify for permanent disability in California? I don't know how to go about checking into this. Can anyone help??
In California, I believe you must be unable to work for a period, of at least 6 months. Has your Doctor officially diagnosed you with Fibromyalgia? It is now considered a known disease, by SSA, so you should talk to your doc, and get the paperwork together to apply for disability. I was turned down twice, before I was finally approved. I am currently being reassessed to continue to stay on disability.
They told me, in Illinois , that I had to be not able to work for one year in order to qualify for disability. I was also told you have to have a lawyer.
You could have your Dr take you off work medical leave of absence. If you have short term disability from work they pay you a certain percentage here in michigan it's 60% if your Dr will keep you off work for 2 years you can collect from your term disability then after that file for social security disability. If you get denied get a lawyer and usually you get approved the 2nd time. But that is here in michigan.
Hi Tracy I'm sorry I can't help you as I live in the UK. I'm currently working reduced hours as the works Doctor won't let me work longer and to be perfectly honest I sometimes struggle with the reduced hours BUT I need an income. I'm trying to get a non means tested benefit called P.I.P. Personal independent payment but I've been turned down 4 times as I work and drive the half mile to work ..... It's now been to Court and they have asked for all of my doctors/hospital records and for me to attend in person. I'm stressing about going, how to get there and the stress of it all BUT if they think it will help I will go... trouble is when you look alright people don't see the illness do they. x I wish you luck in finding out x
