Members discussed whether fibromyalgia itself causes weight gain or if it's primarily due to medications and reduced activity levels from pain. Several members shared that medications like Gabapentin, Lyrica, morphine, and Sertraline contributed significantly to their weight gain, with one member gaining nearly 20 kilograms on Lyrica alone, while others emphasized that decreased mobility from chronic pain meant burning fewer calories. A recurring theme was the frustration of being caught in a difficult cycle where both the condition and its treatments contribute to weight gain, with members finding some success through dietary changes like cutting soda, reducing portion sizes, and increasing protein intake when able to be more active.

Unfortunately fibro does cause weight gain and I have found out that some of my meds for treating it also causes weight so I can't win

NinaMary jackson is right being less mobile doesn't help because you are not burning off calories you take in so you gain weight but i don't think Fibro itself causes weight gain

From the beginning I was only taking the lowest dose of Xanax to sleep, a beta blocker and 1/2 of a muscle relaxer, then Wellbutrin was added when I decided to try to quit smoking. I started gaining weight before the Wellbutrin. I have gained at least 40 pounds since being diagnosed, so you tell me if it's the fibro or the medication. I say it's the fibro, but I don't know for sure.
