Members validated the experience of frequently catching colds and viruses with fibromyalgia, explaining that the condition is associated with a compromised immune system that makes people more susceptible to illness, especially when already fighting chronic pain and fatigue. Several members shared practical strategies that have helped them stay healthier, including taking daily vitamins like C, D3, B12, and zinc, using probiotics, wearing face masks during cold and flu season, practicing rigorous hand hygiene, and avoiding sick people whenever possible. A recurring theme was the frustration of feeling perpetually vulnerable to every germ while already battling symptoms that mimic the flu daily, paired with encouragement that no one is alone in this struggle.

I have no thyroid along with other medical problems, but my doctor has suggested for me to avoid getting out as much in the cold and flu seasons, but if need be, to use a face mask that covers my nose and mouth whenever I'm grocery shopping, or have to go to doctors office. Your doctors usually will (during cold and flu season) put face masks out on the counter tops free for anyone needing them...

Oh yes, my immune system was shot when I was diagnosed with fibro, CFS, hypothyroid 5 years ago. The advice in the book Medical Medium has helped me a lot.

Also, take vitamins, especially C, B12, D3 and stay hydrated. Flu season is scary, especially since we already feel like we have the hard flu everyday, all day! Use hand sanitizer and stay away from sickly people. Hope this helps! Blessings, Rebecca

Fibromyalgia is an auto- immune disease. Your immune system is compromised, and you will become more susceptible to illness.
