Since exercise is basically the only thing they know is good for us I'm wondering if there is anyone who is working with a personal trainer? Especially online personal training since it's a lot cheaper. I've been trying to find someone who is specializing in working with someone with fibro or chronic pain which seams difficult to find. Greatful for answers

Members shared mixed experiences with personal training for fibromyalgia, with several finding success working with trainers who have chronic pain themselves and understand the unique challenges of managing flare-ups while staying active. Many members emphasized the importance of moving slowly, listening to your body, and finding the right balance, as too little movement causes stiffness while too much triggers debilitating flares that can last for days. A recurring theme was that exercise helps maintain mobility and strength rather than eliminating pain, with weight lifting and gentle stretching emerging as more fibro-friendly than high-intensity cardio.

I have a personal trainer who also has fibro. This woman has been a Godsend. There are days when I come back from a workout and feel more tired than others, but I think I'd have days like that anyway. I feel that working with her for about two months now has helped me. Since she has it herself and has "those days" she has had to adapt workouts for me when I'm going through it. I walk on my own for cardio but her strengthening workouts have been gentle and effective. And when I have had soreness from the workouts, I have been amazed that I can still realize and differentiate the "good soreness" from the other pain that is with me all of the time. No, working out hasn't made that go away, but I think I'd be worse and less strong without her help. I think she does some clients via Skype, let me know if you'd like contact information. It's nice to work with someone that knows these things I feel are not imaginary. Definitely try to find a trainer with fibro. It's actually inspirational! Good luck!

Can't do the exercise thing. It is killer for me. Takes days to recover form the fatigue and the pain. I do mild stretches when I can and leave it at that.

More is definitely not better.

I work with a trainer who suffers from migraines. She is wonderful and so understanding! I like working with a trainer since without her, I'd probably slack off. She motivates me! Thru trial and error, we have determined that aerobic exercise sends me into a 2-4 day full-on FLARE. So we stick with weight lifting. Lifting has relieved a lot of the fibro pain, I can differentiate between fibro pain and weight lifting pain, and I have fewer fibro flares. Between my fabulous rheumatologist and lifting weights, I have really gotten a lot of my life back.

Don't push yourself. Just go very slow.
