well, prebiotics are especially important. Dandelion greens, Kale,Broccoli Rabe, legumes, swiss chard, fresh spinach, all organic wild salmon, avacodo, coconut oil, no gluten, no stimulants, no sugar, no sugar substances( sucralose destroys gut microbiota) fiber, both citrus and psylliam husk, organic everything, seeds, nuts, almonds, and distilled water, no alcohol and no processed food whatsoever. Florastor, available at pharmacy chains will prevent bacterial overgrowth(common in IBS) and a high quality probiotic like ultra flora--I've had IBS since I was 13yrs. old this has been the only thing that works Buy David Perlmutter's book, 'Brain Maker,' New York Times Best Seller----follow it religously and you'll never have a problem again--but give it a few weeks before you see the transformation- guarenteed to work if you're willing to stick it out

For me, I've tried high fiber, low sugar...etc but find I can be fine on all of that for long periods, or have episodes while trying such restrictions. Fiber seems to make a diff, so I supplement with things like benefiber, sugar is bad all around but I haven't had much luck cutting it out. Caffeinated beverages and chocolate do not seem to agree with me. Hope this may help you. Feels like an individual toss up at times depending on the frequency and severity of ones symptoms.
