I don't know it this is just a me " thing " but the only way to know for sure is to ask others with the same disease . Has anyone noticed that since being diagnosed (or possibly earlier because some of us have been achy all our lives) that you seem to stay sick along with everything else ? It seems like I constantly have some type of cold symptoms year round , like stuffy nose, sore throat, swollen glands, earaches or some type of upper respiratory infection ? For years , I never got the flu or… read more

Members overwhelmingly confirmed that fibromyalgia seems to weaken their immune systems, sharing experiences of constant colds, sinus infections, bronchitis, and flu that linger far longer than in others and resist typical treatments like antibiotics or flu shots. Several members found relief through daily probiotic supplements, which significantly reduced their recurring sinus problems and infections, while others suggested addressing potential allergens and chemical sensitivities that can mimic or worsen cold-like symptoms year-round. A recurring theme was the belief that chronic pain and stress hormones take a toll on immunity, leaving members more vulnerable to illness and slower to recover, with many expressing relief at discovering they were not alone in this frustrating pattern.

We are more prone to things that are allergenic as well as having chemical sensitivities. Any of these can make you feel stuffed up and lousy and all year too. I deal with allergies and some chemical sensitivities. Some supplements have been beneficial. To help with allergies I take Quecertin & Bromelain supplement, 2 capsules once a day. Try figuring out if you have specific triggers either allergen or chemical and try eliminating them and see if that helps. Bleach and ammonia are bad for me so I use all natural cleaners, dye free and perfume free laundry detergent and fabric softeners, and I use non chlorine bleach for whites. As far as illnesses go, I have had more sinus infections and colds than I used to. I can't help but to think with chronic pain and stress hormones in the body that it does affect the immune system to some degree. It may take us longer to get over things, but this may not always be the case.

Hugs for you Brittani, when I was first diagnosed, the pain hit me like a ton of bricks. The rheumotologist I had at the time treated me like a druggie. I was in pain for no reason and getting pain meds was like pulling hens teeth.

For me it was backwards I suppose. I've always had a weak immunity and was sick posted l often growing up. As a child I was constantly having pain in my ankles and the doctors didn't know why, I looked ok, bone density normal. I was weak though. Then migraines started add a teen, hip started later into teens and now at 26, full blown fibro... I think I've always had it. Been in a major flare for the past year. 4+ years constant pain as well

Oh Brittani, I feel so bad for you and you need to be on some kind of meds for the pain. I had 4 small ones all under the age of 10 and I remember how hard that was to get anything done, thank God my parents were alive at the time and they'd help out when they could. Doctors can be real a'holes when it comes to pain meds but the government watches over them to see how many scripts they write for opiates and other pain narcotics so we have to be treated with caution because they don't want to lose their license due to over prescribing. How does the government know what we need for pain and now you have people that take the stuff to get high , so we're all lumped in the pot.
Having given birth and any stressors I believe make this disease come to life and turn on full blown.! I just feel terrible for you because I couldn't go w/o my meds, I'm praying for you and want you to stay in touch,
Hugs and many prayers my fibro sister,
Brenda

BrittaniMccarty, dear God it's been a year of flare ups ? Are you on any meds , do you have a rheumatologist, have you tried a heat pad or warm baths ? No one should suffer like that , I feel so bad for you. If I have a 24 hr flare up , I'm ready to collapse! The constant pain is always with me and has been for over 15 yrs that I've gotten use to but flare ups , that's torture. I don't even know what to say other than I pray that God sends you some pain relief , you need it.
Gentle hugs my dear ,
Brenda
