Do You Have A Flare Up When You Ingest Gluten?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi. I have fibro, Chiari Malformation, and celiac disease. I was "glutened" the other day and it seems anytime I accidentally ingest gluten - I have a major fibro flare. I struggle knowing what is celiac symptoms, fibro symptoms, and/or Chiari symptoms. Any thoughts?

I was recently tested. It came up with gluten, dairy, whey, sugar, pineapple, almonds, vinegar and mushrooms . It also showed a Candida overgrowth which I'm now on a clean for. The test was costly $250 Canadian . But I feel it was worth it. My naturopath has seen great success with diet changes in her fibro patients

Ive been wondering about getting tested for food intolerance, I've just had a real bad flare after eating pasta two days running. I felt like every bone in my body was bruised and had awful stomach cramps, it could be coincidence but I suppose the best way to find out is keep a food diary??

I have gluten and dairy sensitivities.
If I eat gluten I have more pain and stiffnes in my joints and extra fatigue. Dairy affects my bowel adding further abdo pain and bloating.
For Breakfast: smoothie containing : spinach, carrot, sweetpotato, avo, banana and blueberries tsp hemp seeds ( I sometimes alternate the veggies)
Mid morning 1 banana and macadamia nuts
Lunch: tuna or egg with avo small amount of rice.
Afternoon snack. Almond butter and fruit.
Dinner: salmon/fish/chicken or beef with veg mash or rice and veg.
Also beetroot and green apple juice.
Mid evening: coconut yogurt and fruit.
I have rice milk in my tea.
3 litres water everyday without fail.
I find if I vary from this I suffer extra in the next few days.
This doesn't keep me symptom free but it helps to keep everything bearable.
I use chiropractor with acupuncture for pain as I have bursites on most of my joints (no pain meds due to intolerance)
Meditation 3 times daily.
Walk 2km every evening
Magnesium, digestive enzymes, zinc, vit B
My sleep pattern is usually 2 hourly without waking (recently got to 4hourly) only if I keep to a strict sleep routine.
I find I usually have a 3 to 4 hour energy burst mid morning to mid afternoon that I make the most of each day, either housework or within or business. But I plan my to do list before hand so to maximize my time.
I am constantly fatigued and with pain but my strict regime keeps everything bearable.
If I can get done what I need to then I can relax in my exhaustion without feeling overwhelmed.
Hope this helps someone .

Shankhawk, what do you eat on a regular day? That's a lot of allergies. I'm trying to be gf, dairy free and tomatoes free and am having a hell of a time doing it.

Thank you all for your responses. I'm feeling a lot better today than I have the last few weeks. I normally do well with remaining 100% gluten free but that crap is sneaky. I have to remind myself to ALWAYS check and recheck. There a lot of generic brands that are NOT gf but the name brands are. (Ie corn starch, nutella, baking soda, etc).
