Has Anyone Else Had Problems With Swollen Lymph Nodes, My GP Wanted An ENT To Do A Biopsy
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've had to have one lymph node taken out in 1997, and the ones under my jaw line and back of my head/neck area swell up then go down, the ENT didn't want to do any biopsy's and of course they weren't swollen up much at the appointment and he wants me to come back if and when they start to swell he wants to make sure it's not saliva glands swelling. And what blood work should i get my GP to do

Generally, lymph nodes are immune system’s part, occurred in the armpits, chest, groin, neck and behind the ears. In biopsy, lymph node tissue are remove and examined under a microscope, to determine the signs of infection or a disease like cancer. Depending on the suspect causes of swollen lymph nodes, certain blood tests (blood work) might also executed to confirm the underlying condition.

I had an appointment with an ENT yesterday for what I thought woukd be a biopsy. I complained to my GP several months ago that my glands were always swollen and wondered if I had CFS as well as Fibro. He sent me for an ultrasound and it did show swollen lymph nodes but more concerning to him was the fact that I had several nodes on my thyroid gland. He decided to retest in 6 months and they were the same size so he referred me for a biopsy. In the meantime I had asked my Dr. to do all the blood work for conditions that mimic Fibro. Epstein Barr virus, Autoimmune disorders, thyroid levels, and he included Cat Scratch Disease. I never got a call back so assumed everything was fine. Well I got to my appointment for biopsy yesterday at the hospital and he ENT asked my why I got the ultrasound in the first place. I told him about Fibro, and that they were testing for other things and that the nodes they found were concerning to my GP. Well for some reason my GP sent him all those blood test results and I tested "reactive" for Epstein Barr virus and the Cat Scratch Disease test was inconclusive so he said I should be retested. He didn't feel it was necessary to do a biopsy at all on the thyroid nodes since my thyroid levels are optimal and most of the general population apparently gets theses nodes and there is no history of thyroid cancer in my family. I am a little annoid that my GP never discussed the blood results with me and I heard it from the random ENT at the hospital!
