Most people who take pain medicine for a real problem usually do not get high because it works on the pain. There are always some people that just want to get high period. They do anything and everything to get their high. Those are the ones who make it bad for the rest of us. Do what works for you and be happy!
Everyone is different when it comes to medications. I for one am addicted to pain medications. I have more problems than fibro. If I didn't take pain medications, I would be in a wheelchair. I for on am willing to risk being on narcotics, and live a semi-normal life. Everybody has a tolerance and the reason I go to a pain center is so they keep track of all my meds and if I got it filled on say the 12th. I am unable to get it again until the 12th of the next month. I am also not allowed to get any pain med from any other source. If I take a prescription from another doctor, the pharmacy will not fill it. They keep you from taking more than directed. Everyone has to make their own decision. There is no right or wrong answer, and some people like me have a lot more going on than just the fibro. I have had 3 back surgeries and another fracture in my back now, I have had 4 shoulder surgeries, open heart surgery, and osteoporosis. Find out what is best for you and do it. There is always someone who is allergic or will have a problem with a medication. I the side effect section of any med, they have to list everything that has ever happened to anyone, even if it is one in a million. Do what you need to do to make yourself happy and healthy.
Thanks @A MyFibroTeam Member ! Some people just don't get that being addicted to narcotics is not as bad as not living at all.
@SCDreamer. I have researched it before and found very similar information. I think it is great that you shared that information. Some people do not always know they have a underlining heart condition. In my state there was actually a death of a kid using another kid's Adderall because of a heart condition no one knew he had (and by kid I mean college student). So I think personally for me I rather know the potential side effects if I am using medications
Be cautious of using NSAIDs with the new warnings that they are placing regarding heart attacks. I have yet to do research myself, but I have heard there is a high correlation. I personally can't take NSAIDs because of kidney problems so also be aware of getting your kidney function checked regularly if you take NSAIDs or any medications that are metabolized and flushed out through the kidneys. I was put on Nucynta by my pain clinic doctor and I hate it. I have to be careful because of my kidneys, and I don't think the relief I get is worth the risk and side effects. I have terrible dreams and sleeping problems. It is also very expensive. I am still looking for something that will help me get up and moving better so that hopefully I can get relief with physical therapy and exercise.
