Does any of you have chemical sensitivities? I break out in a rash so bad I have to get a Prednisone shot or take the pills. I break out from chlorine, so I can not go swimming, Salt water...no beach fun, the sun if I am exposed like all day, bug spray, sunscreen, and tanning beds. So summer really sucks! Does anyone else have these skin sensitivities?

Members shared their experiences with chemical sensitivities related to fibromyalgia, with many reporting strong reactions to perfumes, cleaning products, chlorine, paint fumes, and food additives that trigger rashes, migraines, nausea, and respiratory issues. Several members offered practical strategies including comprehensive allergy testing to identify specific triggers, switching to natural cleaning products and organic foods, installing shower filters, swimming in saline pools instead of chlorinated ones, and researching gentler alternatives for sunscreen and other products to maintain quality of life. A recurring theme was the heightened sensory experience many members face, from unusually keen smell and taste to sensitivity to sounds and visual patterns, alongside the importance of adapting lifestyle choices and advocating for oneself rather than letting fibromyalgia dictate limitations.

I cannot be around perfumes, candles, laundry detergent that smells, room deodorizer, ... most chemicals now. I avoid certain stores and events because of odors.

I'm sensitive to certain perfumes, chlorine, some plant smells (there is a hedge bush near our post office that makes me gag) and a lot of the chemical crap that is in food. I'm not officially allergic to anything, but...pretty darn close. I try to eat as little processed food as possible, because it upsets my stomach to eat dead foods: man-made, processed, junk foods. I try to eat as much living foods as possible: Fresh produce, veggies, fruits, lean meats, beans, nuts, whole grains etc. I eat about 50% vegetarian, but I discovered I have to have a very high protein diet (because my muscles spasm and twitch less) and I can't get enough protein without eating meats.

@A MyFibroTeam Member hahah trust me, I know what you mean! My man doesn't just talk, he rambles about anything (usually useless trivia - not even historical, which I could bear)! I love him dearly and I am blessed and thankful for him understanding Fibro, but dear Zeus, sometimes I do the same as you... Just zone out. Or when that doesn't help, I ask him to run a mini errand or bribe him with food just to get some peace and quiet. Hahaha
