I searched.. Not what I was really looking for. I see a pain management doc. Psychology really. He says I may still be suffering from PTSD. Anyone with fibromyalgia have a bad past or pTSD? I guess I am supposed to work on physical and emotional abuse from the past or my fibro will not get better? EMD will help he says. Should I just do this even though I have done several inventories with another type of source? Kinda don't want to step into the past anymore. For why? The present and future is… read more

Members shared deeply personal connections between PTSD, childhood trauma, and fibromyalgia, with many describing how past emotional or physical abuse may have contributed to their condition. Several members discussed their experiences with EMDR therapy, which some found helpful for processing trauma while others found traditional talk therapy made symptoms worse, with a recurring recommendation to find a therapist who listens without forcing uncomfortable discussions. A powerful theme emerged around the importance of processing and releasing past trauma at your own pace, with members emphasizing that reducing stress and learning to forgive can help ease fibromyalgia symptoms, though many acknowledged that healing is a long and deeply personal journey.

Ive done the EMD and it was awesome. I thought I had ptsd from one of my last jobs..and turns out when I started the process, I went straight back to childhood. For all my life I have been telling my mom, its okay, its in the past, i finally had to deal with it, tell her how I felt, admit that she made me feel this way, deal with it and move on. It was a tough time, believe me and took months, but I am a better person on the other side.

All FM comes from a severe emotional or physical trauma. It can show up 30 years after the fact.

I definitely think PTSD contributes to our Fibro. My whole past was just extreme stress, never relenting, abusive childhood, then abusive marriage, so that for sure does bring it on.....I am in a very happy place now and have dealt with my past, but try not to think of it anymore, just want to move on. My Fibro is still there but I am learning my new limitations and how to live with it.... Not easy though.... We all just got to keep going and have faith.... Take care

@pTSD I do agree that if we don't release completely and forgive our past problems and move past them, we never really get over them. So getting that in check will greatly help, because STRESS IS NOT GOOD FOR OUR FIBROMYALGIA. You have to completely release that in order to move forward with some kind of treatment. Stress just adds significantly to the pain and lack of good sleep is another. Get the stress and anxiety straight and you will find you'll have a few more good days or even so so days. I personally wouldn't do treatments that have already been tried. The doctor works for you, you don't work for him/her. If they want to back track treatment, I would say find another doctor. Many rheumatologist deal wth this condition. I would start there when looking. But please don't give up. There are doctors out there who will understand.

I think our bodies are able to cope with short bouts of stress but when it is ongoing, extreme unrelenting stress for years like I had, eventually your body just breaks down and cannot cope anymore .....
