Members shared widespread frustration over doctors who dismiss, minimize, or refuse to treat fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, with many recounting experiences of being pushed toward antidepressants instead of receiving proper referrals or diagnostic testing. Several members recommended seeking out a Doctor of Osteopathy who specializes in musculoskeletal conditions and fibromyalgia, noting that many can see patients without referrals and are more willing to order necessary tests and provide holistic care. A recurring theme was the exhausting battle with both medical dismissal and insurance barriers, including denied Medicaid applications and specialists who refuse to see patients once they learn of a fibromyalgia diagnosis.

More times than I can count. Lots of money spent on ineffective treatments and doctors who did nothing for me. Most get that deer in the headlights look when you start trying to explain all your symptoms and then get mad when you refuse to get on crazy pills. Even specialists. It's hard to find a doctor who understands or is willing to help you other than just prescribing antidepressants. A doctor who specializes in CFS and Fibromyalgia is going to be your best bet for someone who'll understand and help.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, a D.O. is a Doctor of Osteopathy. They are doctors of musculoskeletal problems, many do Chiropractor manipulations, but it really just depends on the D.O. Some are more medical where others are more naturopaths, some are both. I think I would look for one who is in between. Most are well versed in the treatment of CFS and FMS.
