Members rallied around someone who was denied disability after their doctor's recommendation, with the overwhelming consensus being that hiring a specialized disability attorney dramatically improves approval chances, as most shared they were denied once or twice before being approved with legal help. Several members offered practical strategies, including documenting every doctor visit and emergency room trip, ensuring medical records consistently reflect pain and limitations, gathering recommendations from doctors and former employers, and understanding that initial denials are common as the system hopes applicants will give up. A recurring theme was persistence and self-advocacy, with members emphasizing the importance of not downplaying symptoms, claiming all relevant conditions including mental health impacts, and knowing that back pay is awarded from the application date once approved.

Tonya, I recommend you get a FULL copy of ALL medical records you have. Look through them. But while you're doing that, change your hat from fibro sufferer to a judge who is trying to make sure he's not going to be questioned about his judgement on your case. Look for anything in your documents that may hinder your case. Also, be sure that your records are consistent with showing that your pain is documented. If you have lost time at work, or have lost your job due to attendance, be sure you have those records too. Hope this helps.

While you are going thru an attorney, be sure your doctors are on the same page. Proper historic records are the key and some hearing judges just don't think fibromyalgia is real. So if you have an additional ailment, you should claim both. Make sure you visit the E.R. as needed. The more hospital visits you have the better it looks. Keep trying, don't downplay your condition or pain. The nervous breakdown needs to be mentioned in the report as well. Keep us posted and good luck.

Hire a lawyer they only charge a fee if u win the case, the maximum fee by law is $6,000, it will come off your disability payment. I tried 3x's myself, it is very draining, first time with the lawyer and I was awarded disability, find a reputable firm that specializies in diability cases. Keep on trying, good luck!
