Members responded with great empathy to the question about hand pain and carpal tunnel syndrome, sharing a wide range of personal experiences from mild discomfort to severe pain requiring surgery. Several members described helpful strategies including wrist splints or compression wraps, heating pads, warm running water, arthritis creams, physical therapy exercises, and keeping hands warm with fingerless gloves. A recurring theme was the importance of rest and not overstraining the hands, with some members also noting that hand pain can be fibromyalgia-related and that working with a physical or occupational therapist can make a real difference.

I have to wear compression splints on both my hands at night, or the pain would be too intense. I used to hang the arm over the bed to ease pain, then I moved onto getting injections for the carpel tunnel, but they stopped helping so I now use the compression splints. They do help......somewhat.

LoreHFEJ Morning, depending on the severity of your pain, the above recommendations are great. My hands were so painful-I was teaching, could not hold a pen, could not SLEEP….I had surgery to loosen the tendon. I had a great surgeon. I was not put to sleep. Played music in the OR, the staff talked and joked with me the entire time. Minimal pain afterwards. Ten days in a short cast. The ‘minute the tendon is released’ ( I think that’s the terminology ) the pain is gone. All of it. That was 30 years ago. Have had no pain since. Whatsoever.
Please understand I know how painful it is. This is my experience, I had no alternative due to the degree of pain. I wish you the best of success, regardless of what you do.

Hand and even toe pain is unfortunately a comorbidity of fibromyalgia. My pain is asymmetrical meaning one of my wrists experiences it more than the other. At first thinking it was carpal tunnel, it disappeared leading me to believe it was fibromyalgia related. Many people might experience it. However I was able to deal with mine using occupational therapy putty and occasionally wearing a compression wrap and administering pt excersises. If it is fibromyalgia related it generally improves. A good pt or occupational therapist can help. Your physician will be able to assist if it is not fibro related. I understand your pain. I too have experienced it. I wish you well.☯️🌿💗
