How do you cope when others don't recognize how serious fibromyalgia is, especially when living with a severe case?

First — what you're feeling is completely valid. Feeling unseen and misunderstood is one of the most common and painful experiences shared by people living with fibromyalgia. You are absolutely not alone in this. Many MyFibroTeam members describe the same frustration — no matter how hard they try to explain what they're going through, they're met with blank stares or dismissive comments like "it's all in your head."

Some ways members have found to cope include:

- Sharing written resources about fibromyalgia with family or friends
- Using creative analogies to describe the experience, like "charging all night just to reach 20% battery"
- Simply saying "I have chronic pain" — sometimes simpler language gets a better reaction
- Letting go of the need to educate people who aren't willing to listen
- Finding community with others who truly "get it" Living with a severe case that limits your life so deeply is an enormous burden. It's okay to grieve that. Please don't hesitate to speak with a healthcare provider about both the physical and emotional weight you're carrying — both matter deeply.
