My gum is so sore and my jaw is aching where the dentist was putting so much pressure on it getting my tooth out I thought he was going to snap it off. I'm just wondering if having fibromyalgia can make it worse and make the pain last longer.

Members validated concerns that fibromyalgia can amplify and prolong dental pain after tooth extraction, with many sharing personal experiences of extended healing times, lingering aches in fully healed areas, and even phantom tooth pain where no tooth remains. Several members offered practical advice, including using over-the-counter numbing gels like Orajel or teething gel with lidocaine, alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen for inflammation, eating soft foods, and contacting the dentist if pain persists beyond a week or if an infected socket is suspected. A recurring theme was the frustration of fibromyalgia making routine procedures feel anything but routine, coupled with encouragement to stay vigilant about follow-up care and to give the body extra grace during recovery.

I've had a few extractions recently and it leaves me in a lot of pain and fatigue but if you're getting too much socket pain I'd get it checked out as you could have a infected socket .The pain usually peaks around day 3💜

@A MyFibroTeam Member how long has it been since you had your tooth pulled? I had one of my molars pulled at the beginning of the year. My dentist got my tooth out surprisingly easy, took about 15 minutes. But, my gums were very sore for about a week. I ate soft foods until the pain was tolerable. If it's been longer than a week you may want to call your dentist and let them know.

Yes I have been reading up about dental care with fibromyalgia , it's important to follow up with a dentist as well as the rheumatologist. I have read and I hope that you get some relief soon

Orajel can be gently placed around the gum surrounding the extraction to help ease pain and people laugh when I tell them this. Paracetamol is the best thing for any type of tooth pain. That and Ibuprofen, taken a few hours after each other. 1 will help inflammation as well as pain ♥️❤️
