I was diagnosed with this a few months back, just a feeling of something in my thraot. Always wanting to clear it. That I could deal with. But now I have pain. A dull pain in my throat and in my ears at times. I am extremely anxious at the minute due to pains in my back. I went to see the Dr and he didn't seem concerned. He put it all down to anxiety. I felt so fobbed off again. Almost like nobody can help me. I'm so fed up. It's one pain after another and it also seems like a new pain everyday… read more

I am TOTALLY not trying to diagnose you but I am wondering a couple of things that aren’t quite fibro. Related. First, my cousin has a little bit of Anxiety/OCD, and he constantly has the feeling( Almost like a tic, to clear his throat), and he does it a lot during the day. It has gotten better when he takes a small dose of Xanax, which he uses when he is experiencing increased anxiety, and every few months panic. Secondly, is it possibly you could be sleeping with your mouth open and perhaps trying a humidifier at night may help. Also, I have insane TMJ, that causes me to have increased swallowing when I get up because I feel like I need to clear my ears. It also causes me EXTREME jaw and ear pain. I have found that my Chiropractor can be helpful at releasing my jaw pretty damn well, as well as my neck, where I feel a lot of pain.
I also have allergies (all of a sudden and I am 44! ) it is causing Sinus Pressure and Post-Nasal Drip. It causes my throat to hurt and my lymph nodes to swell. I have been having the swollen lymph nodes for quite a while now, and it is very painful!! My Pharmacist recommended Claritin D , which is like 40.00 (My Husband bought it thinking it was the only thing that would help me), as I would have just got a generic brand that was far less expensive. Lastly, it is really disgusting, but it really does help, is a hot tea called “Throat Coat.” I don’t know where you live, or if you have this, but if they do not have this in your grocery store, perhaps you could try your local nutrition store ( Not Vitamin Shop), or even look it up on Amazon or google it or something. If they don’t have that exact kind, I am sure you could try a similar version. I put quite a bit of honey and sugar in mine so it does not taste as gross. It is much better this way! You could also just do a green or earl grey tea, or my absolute fave, vanilla chai. I hope maybe one of these might help!!! Sorry it is sooo excessively long!!! I happen to have ADHD, and one of the symptoms is having to explain EVERYTHING IN INSANE DETAILS, as well as OVER-SHARING!! Have a good , pain-free ( or as best we can go for, day!)

I’ve had this quite a bit in the last few months. I’ve put it down to just a lingering cold. Could the pain possibly because your throat is soar? From trying to clear it a lot and I suspect gulping and trying to bring something up? I had this and took some covonia cough medicine and lozenges and they helped coat my throat. The new pain everyday is the fibro though I am afraid…

Does anyone else experience throat sensations and new pains with fibromyalgia, and feel dismissed by doctors?

You're definitely not alone in feeling dismissed or experiencing new pains that seem to appear constantly. Many people with fibromyalgia describe feeling like they're dealing with "one pain after another" and struggling to get doctors to take their concerns seriously.

Anxiety is actually a common symptom that goes hand-in-hand with fibromyalgia, and it can intensify pain sensations. The throat discomfort and ear pain you're experiencing could be related to muscle tension from both fibromyalgia and anxiety, though it's understandable to worry about other causes.

A MyFibroTeam member shared: "I have had many unpleasant experiences with doctors pre-post-diagnosis. I changed doctors after 5 years of complaining about recurring symptoms, one doctor implied I was moaning over imaginary symptoms."

If your doctor isn't addressing your concerns adequately, consider:
- Asking for a referral to a rheumatologist who specializes in fibromyalgia
- Seeking a second opinion if you feel dismissed
- Requesting a mental health referral to help manage anxiety, which might help reduce some symptoms

Stress-reducing techniques and guided meditation might help ease both the anxiety and some of the physical sensations you're experiencing.
