I have bpd i am just really curious how other people find fibromyalgia effects there mental health because I have bpd and anxiety its hard to know how much fibromyalgia effects mental health.
Yes. I have Bipolar II with extreme Bipolar depression and I'm agoraphobic. I was dealing with suicidal thoughts frequently because of the constant horrible pain for several years, so I changed psychiatrists. My new psychiatrist changed my medication cocktail and now any suicidal thoughts are fleeting and no longer scare me. As far as my agoraphobia goes I was spending about 99% of my time in my home and now with the medication change I'm able to go to my medical appointments alone and go out with my husband on the weekends. Oh, and now I'm able to get my nails done every 2 weeks all by myself. They are my reward for the positive changes in my life. On a side note, I stopped Duloxatine after 8 years due to the fact that I missed the intimacy that I wanted/needed in my marriage because of it. I was feeling let down and sad not being able to share the physical intimacy and emotional closeness that comes with intimacy in a marriage. I love my husband to bits. He's perfect in my eyes.
@A MyFibroTeam Member Thank you for being so honest lovely! I know how you feel my mental health is in a really bad way currently been self harming and feeling suicidal I have bpd and I have been waiting since July to change my mood stabilisers I finally have an appointment on 20th April. I have had an ambulance out twice recently due to me being suicidal my ex called them the first time I called the 2nd time I refused to go to hospital the first time but spent a day in hospital I am not on anything for anxiety currently so I think I need to speak to the doctors and get some! I really hate myself and I am struggling to find anything to like about myself. I love getting my nails done recently started again it was hard sitting for an hour because I have pain in my upper back and shoulders. My pain has been alot worse the last few months its really effecting my mental health!
My nails
Yes, I agree with what Christine said, easily going into fight or flight can trigger mental health conditions and make harder to manage at times, for sure. 💯
In my case, it may have aided in the development of cptsd as well as continue to trigger it. 🥴
But even as a small child, I used to wake in the midst of panic attacks fairly regularly. Didn’t know what it was and that it wasn’t “normal” til a great deal later in my life.
I find things like walking and exercise seem to help stabilize me a bit, stop me from going into fight or flight as much and reduce my pain levels. Also sleep, nutrition, water, and consistent mental health practices. All the things, all the time.😅🫠
I’m guessing that anxiety is pretty high in many with fibromyalgia. Since we are in that fight or flight state all of the time, we are constantly on high alert looking for predators. This makes us incredibly anxious. My Venlafaxine helps with this and somewhat calms my pain.
