Why do fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome make it so hard to work and stay active?

It's incredibly frustrating to go from being active and engaged in work you loved to feeling stuck in bed. This isn't your fault, and you're not alone in this struggle.

Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome cause real physical changes in your body that make it extremely difficult to function the way you used to. The constant pain, exhaustion, brain fog, and other symptoms aren't something you can just push through - your body is genuinely struggling.

A MyFibroTeam member shared a similar experience: they went from working two jobs and raising three boys alone to being in pain every day, struggling to get out of bed, and finding that things they once took for granted became a fight.

What's happening isn't "all in your head":

- The exhaustion is real and debilitating
- Daily pain affects your ability to function
- Brain fog makes thinking and communicating difficult
- Your body needs rest, even when your mind wants to be active

Many people with fibromyalgia describe feeling like their body is letting them down, especially when they remember how much they used to accomplish. The grief over losing your former active life is completely valid.

While it feels isolating, connecting with others who understand this daily reality can help you feel less alone in navigating this new normal.

Chronic fatigue is extremely unmotivating, just takes it right out of you. Think about how you could find some acceptance toward your ill body, for me, it was a relief when that happened. It’s just much less stressful, which helps you to feel a little better. 🥰
