How can you help your father or family understand why you're in so much pain when they don't get it?
It's incredibly frustrating when family members don't understand fibromyalgia, especially when they question why you see so many doctors. Many people with fibromyalgia face this challenge because the pain is invisible and symptoms can vary day to day.
Here are some approaches that might help:
• Explain that fibromyalgia is a real medical condition that causes widespread pain throughout your body, like "a headache all over your body"
• Share that you may look okay on the outside, but if they can see your pain, it means you're in agony and no longer have the strength to hide it
• Provide reading materials about fibromyalgia so they can learn about the condition on their own
• Be honest about your limitations instead of pretending to be well - let them see what living with fibromyalgia actually looks like
• Remind them that seeing multiple doctors is often necessary because fibromyalgia is complex and requires ruling out other conditions
One MyFibroTeam member shared: "Do the best you can, maybe provide reading on fibro to help family members understand."
Remember, you're not alone in this struggle. Many people with fibromyalgia report feeling misunderstood by family members who accuse them of faking or exaggerating their symptoms.

Get your Doctor to give give you as much information on fibro as possible. They can sometimes print out a bunch of stuff. I don't know what it's like in different countries. There are quite a few books you can get.
I'm 63 now, I've had this since a very early age was sent to the u.k London Southampton many times. Yet my parents never took it seriously. Not one of my family understands or takes me seriously. I hope this helps and your family do take you seriously. Sending healing Love Peps
