Members rallied around someone newly diagnosed with stage 3a chronic kidney disease alongside fibromyalgia, offering both emotional support and practical insights drawn from their own experiences managing CKD. Several members pointed to long-term NSAID use as a likely contributor to kidney damage, with many sharing that staying well-hydrated to flush the kidneys, working with a renal dietitian to navigate dietary changes, and monitoring labs regularly have been essential in managing their condition. A recurring theme was the challenge of balancing conflicting health needs, such as requiring salt and magnesium for fibromyalgia symptoms while needing to restrict them for kidney health, alongside the frustration of accumulating new diagnoses with age.

@A MyFibroTeam Member,
My doctor monitors my lab test and told me my eGfr test was 59,
(Stage 3a CKD). She said my results could be caused by the Motrin I take for pain. She said non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These can be harmful to your kidneys, especially at higher doses and/or with long-term use.

3a CKD can be caused by dehydration and caused by the foods I eat. Being overweight can be a factor as well.
My doctor said she has never read anything on Fibromyalgia causing CKD.

My suggestion is to learn all you can about the beginning stages of chronic kidney disease. Consult with a kidney dietician if possible. And take a look at The National Kidney Foundation. www.kidney.org they have some helpful information.
I'm sorry you have to deal with having another medical issue.
Take care💛

Sorry you have kidney disease.Did you take Advil or other nsaids ?They can cause kidney damage.I think you need to lower the salt intake to prevent fluid retention.

Thank you Anne! I have noticed swelling in my face when I get up in the mornings, increased fatigue, getting up even more to urinate at night, darker urine, urine that feels sticky when I wipe and eyes are sometimes more dry or more watery/blurry. I am supposed to go back in three months. I have to change my diet again which I have started doing. My constipation had become severe, so I just started making homemade flackers which is flaxseed soaked in water, rolled out super thin on parchment and baked to make a kind of 'cracker' hence 'flacker'. This turns out alright, but sure takes a lot of it to get things moving.
I haven't reintroduced low oxalate vegetables yet because I tend to react thirty minutes after eatting vegetables and I kinda dread having to deal with them again. I do not like carbs, so besides a few fruits, I haven't gotten very far. I never eat processed junk or sugar, so at least I have that going for me.
I have to lower my salt intake, yet I don't understand why I need to when my blood pressure is not high and my muscles need the salt. Same with magnesium. I need magnesium for my muscles, but it is hard on the kidneys.
I may go see a nutritionist when I decide I am ready. I can go to the board of health for that
Thank you for your loving concern. May God Bless you.
