Does fibromyalgia cause body jerks and jolts?

Yes, body jerks and jolts can occur with fibromyalgia. A MyFibroTeam member described experiencing "muscle twitches" just as they begin to fall asleep, along with jerks or weird sensations that keep them awake with pain. These involuntary movements are part of the spectrum of muscle-related symptoms that people with fibromyalgia may experience.

These jerks can be particularly disruptive to sleep, which is already a common challenge for people with fibromyalgia. The muscle twitches, jerks, and jolts may happen during the day or night, though they seem especially noticeable when you're trying to fall asleep.

If you're experiencing frequent body jerks that are affecting your sleep or daily life, it's worth discussing with your doctor. They can help determine if there are any underlying sleep disorders contributing to the problem and suggest strategies to manage these symptoms.
