Members overwhelmingly confirmed that fibromyalgia symptoms tend to worsen with age, with many describing a progressive intensification of pain, reduced mobility, and increased difficulty managing daily activities like walking, hiking, or going to the gym. Several members shared that hormonal changes, particularly around menopause starting in the mid-40s, significantly amplified their symptoms, while others noted that cold weather and stress also trigger more severe flare-ups regardless of age. A recurring theme was the importance of staying active when possible, listening to your body's signals, and seeking proper treatment early to help manage the cumulative toll of fibromyalgia over time.

I wouldn't say that it's getting worse exactly. But facing a challenges of getting older, both emotional and physical, can be stressful to see the least. I think that stress is related to the fibro. I think the whole mind-body connection creates the need for a balance and adjustments. I try hard to pay attention to my body and the messages it's giving me. Then I try to use relaxation, along with other things like self-talk, distraction, etc.

As someone who is still relatively young, I plant my feet firmly in denial.

I only was diagnosed about a month ago. I sought help starting two years ago BECAUSE I was having more symptoms but with finally getting a diagnosis I am able to think back over about 20 years and recognize the way my fibro has intensified. Yes, I have have found my fibro getting worse.

Definitely worse, Fiona! Wish I could tell you otherwise. At 82, I I’ve had to stop going to the gym, hiking, and can only walk my dog for 1/2 miles.
