Members rallied around someone dealing with a painful TMJ flare, sharing a wide range of strategies including custom dentist-fitted mouth guards for nighttime grinding, warm cloths on the jaw, and myofascial release for neck and facial muscles. Several members suggested visiting both a dentist and neurologist, staying hydrated with balanced electrolytes, and trying acupressure, magnesium glycinate, and breathwork to ease nerve pain and tension. A recurring theme was the importance of staying proactive, relaxing the jaw and shoulders, and eating soft foods during flares.

Everyone has such wonderful and different solutions! I hope you’ll find a some of those suggestions work for you.

I do regular myofascial release of my neck, traps, and fascial muscles. It keeps the headaches at bay for me.
And is the only thing that has really worked for me when one starts to come on.

Posture is another big one. As it can contribute to more tension.

I hope you find what works for you and some relief soon!! 💛

Yes I have with jaw clicking too. Sometimes I do not know what flares it up, or why it gets better.
I do hope you feel relief very soon.
One word of caution, please remember that tooth abcess may need to be ruled out as there could be an infection lbelow the tooth root.

Magnesium Glycinate 200 mg daily to help support nerve pain /twitching and breathwork to manage discomfort, e.g. box breathing initially (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4, repeat) or 5, 5, 5 and out for 7. Journalling to help manage anxiety. Xxxx

Yes, I have temporomandibular joint disease. My dentist diagnosed it. My insurance does not cover any treatment. A friend of mine who has it gave me a couple exercises to do to help loosen those tight jaw muscles. Sometimes I just do Acupressure At the spots that hurt. The joint pain goes up into the temple and can create headache pain. I also have tinnitus which may be connected. Having pain so close to the inner ear can cause ringing in the ears. It is troublesome.

Yes see your doctor and dentist. Sounds like you could be clenching your jaw when sleeping. My daughters dentist fitted a mouth guard for her to sleep with.
