Members shared diverse experiences about using tramadol for chronic pain, with some reporting successful long-term use spanning decades while others had to discontinue due to side effects like stomach pain, breathing issues, or medication interactions with epilepsy treatment. Several members emphasized that needing pain medication for chronic conditions like fibromyalgia is medically necessary and should not be confused with addiction, noting that tolerance can develop over time but that proper use under medical supervision is key. A recurring theme was that each person's response to tramadol varies widely based on individual health factors and other medications, with many finding relief and gratitude in the community's shared experiences and encouragement.

All narcotics. have the potential to be addictive if abused. People with chronic pain can also build up a tolerance for a narcotic med that they are on and need a stronger dose or a stronger pain med. People with fibromyalgia have a lot of pain and need pain meds. Do you feel that people with high blood pressure that have to take meds to keep their blood pressure controlled are addicts? Of course not. So it should be the same for people with chronic debilitating pain.

Tramadol helps pain management but when I used it, it caused a breathing issue. Since breath is life, I cannot take Tramadol.

Addiction is often dep dependent on the type of personality. I’ve taken tramadol since 1992. It still helps.

I was told it is not a narcotic I could not take it it caused me stomach pain. It is not as addicting as other medications.

After a long time of narcotics your body doesn’t help the pain anymore, sometimes it can cause it.
