Any One Know The Difference Between Fibromyalgia And Chronic Pain Syndrome?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I was looking through the notes on my portal of the pain management doctor.. now I know what I've discussed with him, so I was just curious if anyone has been diagnosed with chronic pain syndrome... I googled it, but I always like y'all's input... (For insurance purposes I think he's using the diagnosis of chronic pain syndrome, but my pea brain thinks there's no difference between them!!?

Don't know but I Googled it, and was interested to see that fibro can be also classified under the pain of chronic pain syndrome (CPS). However CPS seems to be classified differently overall, as it needs a trigger to start the ball rolling like arthritis in a joint - where fibro is pain throughout the entire body. I guess it all relies on how well the Dr does her history taking.

I think there,s also other cronic pain syndromes ecxept fibromyalgia which has all over body pain. You can also have chronic back pain or another cronic pain.πŸ‘‹πŸ» I don’t know if that makes a difference for your insurance because i, m from the Netherlands πŸ‡³πŸ‡±

From what I've researched on both and own experiences, it depends what your Dr wants to report to the insurance company. Both names are labels for a group of symptoms, created by the medical field to help have a way to identify and charge. Not to say all labels are solely for the purpose of charging the patient. I do noticed a pattern in different names for the same thing, especially with the mental health and chronic pain department. If you want to go even broader we can include autoimmune disease and any inflammatory conditions. My last Dr explained how there are probably thousands of autoimmune disease that are unidentified because there is no way to test for it so they do their best to categorize the common stuff and go off of that model a lot. It's easier to gaslight someone who comes back with negative tests than it is to treat.

I was wondering what the differences would be, too.

I'm diagnosed with both fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. I have chronic back pain. Four herniated discs pressing on my spinal cord. I was recently sent to my pain clinic for steroid injections in my spine but was told they only cover the wide spread pain. I was told I can up some meds to help with the back pain but this makes me more fatigued. I am trying to lose weight and do gentle exercise ie walking in the pool and walking on the tredmill. Its easier said than done with the fatigue. I still spend many days trapped at home in bed and use my stick to get around. The weather in the uk doesn't help. I just keep going as best as I can. Xx hope everyone gets some relief soon. Xx
