I have a great deal of trouble getting out of bed. Just sitting up, then swinging my legs off the bed is awkward. I'm afraid I might fall off like I did last week. The local firefighters have better things to do than to pick me up.
Is there such a thing as a short bed rail that I can grab to assist me into a sitting position?
Any other suggestions are welcome.

No suggestion is stupid. Even a bathroom bar could help on the wall where you get up or a standing bar.
There are several diffent types, most are available on Amazon
Help is on the way with a small purchase.
I have got a bed rail, and i wouldn't be without it. I find it so much easier to get out of bed. My doctor/ health worker provided it, try asking your doctor if it doesn't work for you, they will come and take it away. I hope you find this helpful, sending you soft hugs.
I bought one today. We installed it and I tested it. It's very helpful.
We bought a bed rail and will install it this afternoon. Thanks everyone.
