Chronic Anaemia Or Low Iron

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Murray Bridge, AU

Does anyone suffer from chronic low iron and regularly need iron infusions? I usually get infusions every 2-3yrs but I had one a few months ago and I already need another one. Can anyone relate?

Members shared their experiences with chronic low iron and anemia, with many describing iron levels consistently at the lower end of normal ranges despite blood tests technically coming back as acceptable to their doctors. Several members discussed their management strategies, including daily iron supplements (often paired with vitamin C for better absorption), regular infusions every 12 months, and additional supplementation for related deficiencies like vitamin D and B12. A recurring theme was frustration with the medical system's reluctance to act on low-normal results and the real impact these deficiencies have, including fatigue, pain, delayed surgeries, and the challenge of finding effective treatments that don't cause uncomfortable side effects.

I always have low iron, last test it was 22 but because the range was 18-220 it came back normal then my GP hasn't done anything. I've been taking gentle iron but I still get stomach pains, not sure if the pins and needles in my hands are from that or fibro.

Yes I have always had low iron. Not enough to where I need infusions but I take 65mg a day supplement. I'm also vitamin D deficient and take a higher than average dose of that as well. I've not been told I'm anemic being my blood tests come back "normal" even tho everything is on the low end of the range.

The more I read about fibromyalgia its typical to have these tendencies.

My blood work always says normal but at the lower end. I take Euro-Fer 300mg every other day + vitamin C + food.
My doctor never mentioned infusion to me.

What's the indicator for you that you need another one earlier this time?
