I have a lot of trouble sleeping. At first I would sleep but still wake up exhausted. Now falling asleep and staying asleep seem to be more the issue. I haven’t had a chance to go to my doctor yet to discuss my sleep study, I go next month. I don’t want to get use to something either. I know how weird sleep habits can be. I try not to use anything but going days without good sleep is killing me. I’ve tried magnesium, ashwaganda, passion flower, camomile, and something that has basically a… read more
I find Nytol which are herbal and can be bought most Supermarkets or Chemists help they are Herbal.
My doctor took me off my pain meds, and took me down to the lowest dose of my sleep meds. I don't sleep, have had problems sleeping for 40 years. The only thing that enables me to get sleep is melatonin, even with that i wake up every few hours. But it's worth trying, i take time release and quick dissolve. lack of sleep is a big problem for me. Hope this helps
5HTP is a herbal supplement to promote sleep, I didn't realise that it's used for ADHD in US, but I'm based in UK so perhaps things are a little different here?
I have started acupuncture, I have been to one session so far. I get my treatment through the VA and they actually have this experimental style that was amazing, but only lasted a couple of days. I am scheduled for once a month, and my appointment for this month was canceled. So I am counting the days for the next one. I will try the 5HTP, we have some for my husbands ADHD (aren’t we a pair lol).
I don’t like using unnatural medication for anything, it has its place but I think it weakens our body’s ability to care for itself.
I find meditation difficult, but probably should try harder.
I've had two hip replacements, following the last one 9 months ago my sleep was awful. even prescription sleeping tablets couldn't knock me out....was getting quite desperate.
However I started CBT recently and there's a lot on meditation, which really does seem to calm down my busy brain. Sleep really is a factor for me, poor sleep & I'm ruined the next day. 30 mins meditation before sleep & avoiding screens really helps. 5HTP gummies and a cup of camomile tea at bedtime and...... for the last week I have slept very well, rarely waking up during the night.
I also do Tai Chi weekly, this seems to be working to calm my nervous system down and also acupuncture. My acupuncture practitioner is a really great guy, far more helpful than any traditional medicine practitioner I have ever seen, he checks my pulse, tongue and asks about my digestion every visit, fitting the treatment to my condition.
Medical cannabis also helps. It's not a cheap option, but as pharmaceutical pain killers cause all sorts of digestive disorders, I'm sticking to medical cannabis for pain relief and evening sedation.
