Members overwhelmingly disagreed with the idea that fibromyalgia flares should only last two days, sharing personal experiences of flares that lasted anywhere from several days to multiple months, with some describing living in near-constant flare for extended periods. Several members described how flare duration varies widely from person to person and can be triggered by factors like extreme temperatures, stress, or arthritis, with management strategies including rest, avoiding temperature extremes, and learning individual symptom patterns over time. A recurring theme was the profound longing for pain-free days, captured powerfully by one member who described a single pain-free moment in a sauna as feeling like a dream and sparking both amazement and envy for how healthy people feel every day.

Oh these doctors! Flares are usually a few days or a week. But it depends on who you are. Since I’ve gotten older I hurt all the time but I think it’s from arthritis. If I get a flareup I can’t do anything but rest until it passes

I think it's time for your doctor to have a flare. Sometimes flares can last more than a month, sometimes flares can be years in between as we learn to alleviate the symptoms. I recently updated my story and listed what works for me. These may not work for you, but it's a starting point.

Candia, that’s what I hoping too when I got my first flare that it would last just a couple of days but in reality my flares have lasted months at a time.
