Re: TOPAMAX
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone here had good results from taking TOPAMAX? I'm starting it as soon as insurance approval is given. How many milligrams were you prescribed to start? Any significant side effects? Any information provided will be most appreciated. I will update you on my results after taking it for a few weeks. Thank you and be well ❤️‍🩹

I have never taken Topamax, but I do know it has a very long list of side effects. The three riskiest side effects are : leukopenia, generalized tonic-clonic seizures and suicide attempts. The dose is always to titrated up each week until it reaches the standard dose of 200 mg twice daily if it's prescribed for seizures. If it's prescribed for migraine prevention, it is titrated weekly until it reaches 50mg twice daily. The doctor may have you do a Creatinine Clearance lab test prior to dosing to assess kidney status. The one caviat I see for side effects is it can cause weight loss, which most people consider desirable.

Hi michele. I was prescribed topamax a couple of years ago now, I had a terrible experience with theses meds. If I remember correctly I was on 20mg to begin with. They actually made me feel worse! I was given these for both fibromyalgia and migraine.
They made me very nervous I jumped at every noise, couldn't sleep was constantly agitated They highed all my pre-existing symptoms.
I suffer with terrible numbness in my legs after taking these I could not feel them at all.
They may be very good for you, you can only but try them and see how you get on. I work with someone that takes these for her migraines, and she is doing well with them. I just think they obviously dud not suit me. I hope they get some relief if you do start to take them. Kind regards
