I often feel as if I am the 'insect highway'. So often I find myself trying to brush off what I think is an insect - fly, ant, mozzie, whatever - from my arms or legs. If I take a look before brushing the 'insect' away - there is nothing there. Not even a breeze blowing over my skin, but that feeling stays there until I brush it away. Am I going mad? (Be careful how you answer that)
This annoyance can happen anytime of day or night. I have put it down to nerves. Just another fibro symptom… read more

Members rallied around the question of whether the crawling, biting insect sensation is a fibromyalgia symptom, with the community confirming it absolutely is, often linked to nerve sensitivity and sensory overload. Several members shared their own experiences, ranging from mild brushing sensations to intense itching that left skin raw, particularly on the hands and feet. Practical tips included trying sensory-friendly clothing and bedding, applying anti-itch or Benadryl cream before scratching begins, lukewarm showers followed by moisturizer, and soaking hands or feet in cold water for relief.

Hi Annee, Thanks for sharing this link. Looked it up, and though that author has a very well developed faith in the current medical profession - which I do not - she did convince me that it is just another fibro symptom - and basically nerves as the root cause.

Hi Audrey, Feel so sorry for you!! Have never had it that bad, and can just imagine it. The only thing I could suggest is to attack it before it attacks you - like perhaps apply the cream before the itch starts - if you know when it is going to itch that is. Have you tried using ice blocks or very cold water - immerse your hands or feet in the cold water and see if that helps. There are so many ointments out there also, and I would advise going to a Health Food Shop and asking for advice there.
Best of luck with this.

Many people with Fibro have sensory difficulties and we can sometimes go into overload. Perhaps you are really sensitive on your skin and the slightest thing might trigger it? Try sensory friendly clothing, bedding etc and see if that might help 🙂

Thank you so much, Pam. I will try the cold water. I am so embarrassed because I have sores on my hands and feet. I'm ok, though, it could be much worse.
