What Has Your Experience Been With COVID?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I apologize if this question has been asked already, but I was wondering how COVID affected your fibromyalgia symptoms, and if you got more or less sick than others on average (including if you had difficulty breathing or other severe symptoms). My twin brother just tested positive today (I saw him yesterday so it's likely I could end up getting sick within the next few days unless I get lucky). We both have fibromyalgia and are triple vaccinated for COVID, and he says this is the sickest he's… read more

I got covid aswell after having the 3 shots.Moderate pain increase, headache s,mostly in sinuses and throat,a bit of a cough and it stayed in my system for about 3 weeks. No difficulty breathing and I have Reactive airway….It did not affect me that way.I don’t think I got it any worse than others.

I got Covid this summer- I was vaccinated and also boosted and it was the first time my family got it and we got it from my kids I think- anyway- my husband myself and our twin daughters all got it and I was definitely the sickest and sicker for longer which I did attribute to fibro. It felt in a way like a flare-up. It took me a month to fully recover. And I also felt extremely sick. I was really surprised how bad I felt! No breathing problems. I did have a 36 hour non-stop headache that was so bad it was hard to sleep. I lost my sense of smell for a few weeks as well. But I did completely recover and have not had any lingering symptoms. I hope your brother recovers soon and good luck to you also!

PubMed did a study published July 2022. Just read it the other day. ( The relationship between Covid-19 and fibromyalgia syndrome.) You can read it online. One key point was they found no significant difference was detected between non FMS groups and FMS groups in terms of hospitalizations and mortality outcomes related to Covid -19. This study probably didn't cover the current BA4, BA5 variant, I don't remember if it specified.
P.s. It must be wonderful to have a twin brother, take care of yourselves.

Thank you all for your responses, by some stroke of luck (or just the vaccine and my immune system working) I somehow dodged catching it even though I spent a good amount of time with my brother. I was extra fatigued 2-3 days after exposure (and that's saying something since I'm always pretty fatigued) but I repeatedly tested negative and never got symptoms (I think the fatigue was just my body working hard to fight it off), neither did the rest of my family (I'm so thankful for that, as both of my parents are high risk). I'm happy to report that my brother tested negative today and is feeling much better! :) He was quite miserably sick for several days but is luckily better now.

I had the original and it was similar to a bad case of bronchitis for me. I was technically down for 3 weeks but it took forever to recover strength and getting my lungs to do better. I technically never recovered fully. I developed asthmatic issues after covid and my smell and taste took so long coming back. My taste is still off.
I generally take a while to recover from being sick but this one kicked me hard.
This was around the end of 2019, and I haven't had the flu since, and only a mild cold that was gone in three days.
