Members opened up about feeling housebound by fibromyalgia, with many describing the exhausting reality of having to choose between getting ready to go out and having energy left to actually leave, while others shared how flare-ups, pain levels, and unpredictable symptoms make planning outings nearly impossible. Several members found freedom through mobility aids like canes, walkers, and outdoor scooters, encouraging each other to let go of pride or worry about appearing too young for assistive devices and instead embrace the independence they provide. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of isolation and shrinking social worlds, balanced by gratitude for supportive spouses, online shopping and church services, creative coping strategies, and the deep comfort of connecting with others who truly understand the struggle.

I don't go out too much either. Just don't always feel up to it. Yet, sometimes I just push myself so that I don't feel housebound all the time. I've come to accept that people don't understand but I am fortunate to have family and friends who do. I have been struggling since 1986 with this and now I seem to just go with the pain. Sometimes it's very difficult though. But as long as I can do some things I do because I feel lucky I am not bedridden. So take heart and do what you can.

Sadly, I live a shut in life style. Going out requires maximum effort and extra meds. I try and find crestive outlets and not just watch TV. My world is shrinking. No more classes or volunteering. My sense of adventure is a stick in the mud.
I decided to purchase an outdoor scooter. I calll it my alll terrain buggy. It goes on gravel and trails. I need the outdoors and sunshine. Now i can once again go for walks with my husband.

Yes when I’m in sever pain or having bad flares, I won’t go out. This condition has taken my freedom away in a sense to go anywhere or do anything I want. I have to gauge I feel day to and c. But, at the same time I don’t want my husband doing everything for me so it’s a balance. Since, the holidays are coming upon us- I need to take care of myself. Sometimes that means saying no to going places or seeing family. Usually, when I go out to the store I get a shopping cart cuz without it I feel like I could unstable. God bless! Have a low pain and gentle hug 🤗 to you all.

I'm pretty much housebound and don't even step outside the front door. I'd say use your mobility scooter and ignore all others who say you are 2 young. They don't know what fibro is like and will never understand your struggle. If that's your way to freedom take it!. I'm 45 and if I had a mobility scooter I'd bling it up and put some miles on it lol
